Antiquo More on tour in Slovenia
From September 20th to 28th the early music band Antiquo More was on tour in Slovenia because of the Slovenian European Heritage Days as well as because of the Trubar’s summer. Trubar’s summer is a celebration of the 500th birth anniversary of Primoz Trubar, a man of the Renaissance, writer, reformer, father of the Slovenian written language and student as well as co-worker of Martin Luther. European Heritage Days were started in 1984 by the European Council and they are organized annually in 48 countries in September. Antiquo More was the guest of honour of the celebration due to the presented Renaissance repertoire and replicas of early instruments and dresses, it provided a musical setting for the event as well as made Slovenian people aware of charms of the Renaissance music. The band went to Slovenia thanks to an invitation from the community of Skofja Loka, a medieval town, one of the oldest in Slovenia which was the host of the European Heritage Week.

The band had concerts and was applauded in many different corners of Slovenia starting from its North-Eastern part, near the Hungarian border, to the coast of the Adriatic Sea. We were given a warm and friendly welcome everywhere we went, we made friends with interesting people, established new contacts and were invited to the upcoming European cultural events. We also had a chance to see beautiful, well-equipped and ingeniously designed Slovenian schools. A few of them are interested in cooperation and international exchange with our school.
For the band it was the time of hard work (they gave from 2 to 3 concerts every day, there were 13 of them altogether), the time of long coach trips (we went through the area of 7 different countries and one-way trip to Slovenia lasted 14,5h) but also the time of intense sightseeing, making friends with people of different culture and getting to know their customs. The tour was very successful and gave us a lot of unforgettable impressions. Members of the band had a chance to bathe in hot springs, to go on a sail in rowing boats on a famous Alp lake Bled, to visit a few well-preserved huge castles and admire the Mediterranean flora on the coast – olive-groves, cypresses and stone-pines. They also visited the capital of Slovenia – Ljubljana, a charming town Skofja Loka and a picturesque seaside town Piran. One of the attractions prepared by the organizers was a two-hour stay in the biggest cave in Slovenia, the stunning Postojna Cave. On our way back home we stopped for a few hours in Germany to see famous fairy-tale castles of Louis II of Bavaria : Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

We are very happy that we could represent our town Międzyrzecz during such a prestigious cultural event. We would also like to thank everybody who has contributed to the trip of Antiquo More to Slovenia. Our tour also could not take place without parents’ support and involvement as well as kindness and understanding of the headmasters and teachers from students’ schools. Special thanks should be also given to our headmaster – Mrs. Maria Słomińska who is our friend and supporter.
